India Reserve Battalion (IRB) constable Sarabjit Singh has committed suicide inside his official quarters at Ladda Kothi near here.

The police found on Saturday that he had hanged himself from a ceiling fan three or four days ago. IRB commandant Gurdeep Singh confirmed that the constable had been absent from duty since Tuesday (April 23).

On Saturday, the neighbours caught foul smell from his room, at which they informed the police. Police investigation officer Avtar Singh said Sarabjit reportedly had been under depression. The constable had been dead for at least four days, he said. Sarabjit's family has claimed his body after autopsy.
