Karnal men sell insecticides in Punjab illegally, arrested

Patiala police arrested two employees of a Haryana-based company for selling insecticides and seeds without permission from the Punjab government. The company used to sell its products in villages through a four-wheeler, without billing. The sale of insecticides is banned under the Insecticide Act, 1968.


Rajpura SP Bhupinder Singh Khatra said that the police, on a complaint from officials of the agriculture department, raided Badian village in Banur and found one Abhimanyu and Suraj Parkash, residents of Karnal, employees of the JS Trader, selling insecticides and seeds produced by a company, Mohindra and Mohindra.

The accused failed to produce any bill for the goods being sold and also did not have the requisite permission to sell the products. Goods worth Rs. 2 lakh have been recovered from the accused.

In another incident, the police arrested one Ramandip Singh, accused of firing on a police party at Banur. The accused was wanted in several loot and attempt to murder cases.

A Patiala court on Thursday awarded two-year imprisonment to Prof KK Locham, head of the paediatric department of Rajindra Hospital and Medical College here, along with two others, in the incubator death case.
