Kidnappers kill 5-year-old boy; body recovered from canal

Five-year-old Harvinder Singh, who had been kidnapped outside government primary school in Sheron village of Sunam sub division, was murdered by his kidnappers who were his relatives.

The police recovered Harvinder's body from a canal nearSularghrat village, on Sunday.

Sangrur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Mandeep Singh Sidhu said that they had arrested Harvinder Singh alias Bindri, a relative of the father of the deceased, along with his friend Gagandeep Singh, both residents of Chajjali village.

The SSP said that both accused confessed to the crime during interrogation.
As per police information, Bindri suspected that his wife Sukhvinder Kaur was having an affair with the Gurbhay Singh, father of the deceased. Bindri's wife and Gurbhay's wife are cousins.

To avenge the alleged affair, Bindri kidnapped Harvinder on August 22 and threw him into a canal near Gujran village, the SSP said. The police also recovered the boy's slippers from the canal bank.
Accused Harvinder Singh and his friend Gagandeep Singh were arrested under sections 302, 364 and 201 of the IPC.

On the basis of Gurbhay's complaint, the Cheema police had also registered a case against Luckhy Singh of Chajjla under section 353of the IPC as his role in the murder was being investigated.

The body has been sent for postmortem.
