On the statement of Karnail Singh, a resident of village Bhagrana, the Badali Aala Singh police on February 10, 2012, had registered a case against Major under Sections 307, 324 and 341 of the IPC.

As per Karnail Singh, Major had assaulted his son Gurpreet Singh with a sharp-edged weapon.

Gurpreet was seriously injured and was admitted to PGI, Chandigarh. Karnail had told the police that his son owed some money to Major and the accused assaulted him to recover the money.
