Man gets 5 years for throwing 17-month-old daughter to death

The court of district and sessions judge, Fatehgarh Sahib, on Monday, awarded five year sentence to a father for throwing his 17-month-old daughter to death.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on the accused and in default of payment of the fine, he will further have to go for imprisonment for nine months.

In a tragic incident, a 17-month-old girl child was allegedly thrown to death by her father Tejinder Singh on Diwali night in November, 2012.

On the statement of Tejinder's wife Rajwinder Kaur, Mandi Gobindgarh police had registered a case against Tejinder, a resident of Gaushala Road, Mandi Gobindgarh under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code.

The couple had a tiff on Diwali night and Tejinder had thrown his daughter Damanpreet Kaur on the ground. Damanpreet was seriously injured and was admitted to civil hospital, Mandi Gobindgarh, for treatment. Due to her critical condition she was referred to a Chandigarh-based hospital where she had succumbed to her injuries.
