Man injures wife, shoots self

Enraged at his wife for stopping him from drinking, a 65-year-old man shot at his wife, injuring her, before shooting himself dead at Khanaal Khurd village near Dirba in this district on Wednesday.


The deceased has been identified as Santokh Singh and his wife as Amarjit Kaur, 62.

DSP Sewa Singh said the couple were at loggerheads following Santokh's recent drinking binge. The police said that at round 9.30am, the couple exchanged words. Following this, Santokh brought out his licensed .12-bore revolver and fired at his wife. Then, he locked himself in his room and shot himself in the head.

Santokh died on the spot; his wife was rushed to Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, where she was refered to the PGI, Chandigarh. Her condition is stated to be critical.
