The body of an unidentified man who was stoned to death was found near a railway track in Mandi Gobindgarh, on Friday.

Mandi Gobindgarh police station in charge Ajaypal Singh said the man's face was injured beyond recognition and no items were recovered from his person. However, he added that the man could have been a migrant labourer.

A government railway police (GRP) team, under whose jurisdiction the area fell, led by Sirhind railway police in charge Baldev Singh sought the services of finger print experts and a dog squad to nab the unidentified killers.

Owing to the extent of the injury, Baldev Singh said they suspected the involvement of two to three persons.
The victim's body was kept at the mortuary of the Mandi Gobindgarh civil hospital for identification.
He said a case had been registered against unidentified persons and the police were investigating the case.
