Following instructions from chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, the jail department has exempted the Muslim inmates from hard labour during the month of Ramzan.

Additional DGP (Jails) Rajpal Meena said that the department had also decided to provide them meals and make proper arrangements for prayers according to the tenets of Islam.

Assistant inspector general of prisons, Punjab, will co-ordinate with jail superintendents and sub-jails deputy superintendents to supervise the arrangements on a day-to-day basis, he added.
