Panchayat polls: 344 filepapers in Fatehgarh Sahib

For the zila parishad and panchyat samiti elections coming up on May 19, 344 nomination papers, so far, have been filed here. For the zila parishad elections, 46 candidates have entered their names, and 298 are in the contest for block samiti seats.


Deputy commissioner Arun Sekhri said here on Tuesday that block samiti nominations had been filed in Amloh (56), Sirhind (59), Khera (63), Bassi Pathana (64), and Khamano (56). The scrutiny of the papers will be on Wednesday and the deadline for withdrawal is 3pm on Thursday.

The district is divided into 10 zones for the zila parishad election, and 76 zones for five panchyat samiti elections. The polling will be at 478 booths and 3,000 employees will conduct the process.
