Patwari fires at doctor in road rage

Patwari (government revenue official) Talwinder Singh of Tohra village is charged with firing over the head of reputed child specialist Dr HS Aulakh on Saturday in an incident of road rage near here.

The cars of Talwinder Singh and another man named Rajbir Singh had collided at Badali Ala Singh village, and the doctor, driving to Chandigarh with family, had stopped at the scene to see if anyone was injured and his help was required. “Seeing him intervene, the patwari broke into a heated argument with the paediatrician and fired in the air,” station house officer (SHO) concerned Satnam Singh claimed after the afternoon incident. The police also registered a criminal case against the patwari and confirmed that the doctor was safe.

The other driver, Rajbir, and accused Talwinder were also discharged after first aid for minor bruises. Charged under Sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by endangering the safety of others), 336 (endangering life), and 427 (mischief causing petty damage) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the patwari is under arrest.
