Pbi uni campus declared overall winners

Punjabi University campus bagged overall trophy of the three-day inter-zone youth festival that concluded at Guru Teg Bahadur Hall here on Thursday.


The bhangra competitions witnessed a huge response and a jam-packed hall. The team from Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College at Anandpur Sahib was declared winners, followed by Physical College, Patiala, as runners-up. Manpreet Singh of Desh Bhagat Institute at Mandi Gobindgarh was declared best dancer in bhangra competitions.

More than 1,000 students from 70 affiliated colleges of six zones including Patiala, Ropar, Barnala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Sangrur and Mansa participated in the festival.

Government Mohindra College, Patiala, bagged overall literary trophy and university campus was adjudged champions of theatre competition. Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib, was adjudged overall winner of fine arts trophy, while overall music trophy went to the kitty of university campus.


Classical instrument percussion: Guru Nanak College, Budhlada, Government Ranbir College, Sangrur, Mata Gujri College Fatehgarh Sahib and Rayat & Bahra College of Edu., Sahora.

Classical instrument-Non Percussion: Punjabi University campus, Khalsa college, Patiala, Government Ranbir College, Sangrur and Govt Ripudaman College, Nabha.

Western group song: Punjabi University campus, PMN college, Rajpura, Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College, Anandpur Sahib, and Shivalik Institute of Education, SAS Nagar.

Western solo song: Govt Ranbir College, Sangrur, Government Rajindra College, Bathinda, and university campus, Patiala.

Skit: DAV College, Bathinda and Government Rajindra College, Bathinda

Mime: University campus and Mata Gujri college, Fatehgarh Sahib.

Patiala incubator deaths: Doctor gets 2-year jail

A Patiala court on Thursday awarded two-year imprisonment to Prof KK Locham, head of the paediatric department of Rajindra Hospital and Medical College here, along with two others, in the incubator death case. A fire had broken out in the nursery unit of the hospital on the intervening night of January 30 and 31, 2009.
