The rage over child rape in the national capital brought hundreds of people out to the street on Saturday here.

Holding candles and placards, the masses joined the peaceful protest and marched to demand death for the culprit who had left the girl to die covered in own blood. The Indian ex-servicemen association, theatre art unit Rangshala, and the scientific and social welfare forum (SSWF) had organised the protest together.

"The second dreadful incident in the national capital has brought more shame to India after the earlier Delhi rape that exposed how women and children were unsafe in the country," said Dr AS Mann, president of the SSWF. "Society and the judicial system have the challenge to update the laws about punishment for rape. I advocate execution of the guilty."

Even justice Verma committee formed to amend the laws related to crimes against women had failed to give the country any solution, said Dr Mann. "We hope strict laws will reduce crimes against women and put the fear of law in people."

Yash, president of Rangshala, called for pro-active role of the government in ensuring the safety of women. "It's not about Delhi, women everywhere in the country should feel secure," he said.
