The PSEB Engineers Association has decided to intensify their stir against the Punjab government. The association is opposing the extension of the term of  KD Chaudhri, chairman-cum-managing director of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited.

The engineers are agitating against the move of the Punjab government to raise the retirement age of CMDs and  directors from 62 to 65 years and for allowing entry of IAS officers in the management. The government has violated the tripartite agreement and has amended the qualification criteria without reaching an understanding with the association.

The PSEBEA has chalked out a month- long schedule for agitation.

At an emergency meeting of the office-bearers, the association has  decided to extend the ongoing "work to rule" agitation from March 26 to April 25. During the "work to rule" protest, engineers would perform their duties strictly as per rules, from 9 am to 5 pm only and will not perform the duties of subordinates. In case of tripping of any generating unit at any of the thermal/hydro plants or fault in any transmission or distribution system during off duty hours, generation or supply of power may suffer and the responsibility would lay on the state government and the management, said a press note issued by association president Baldev Singh and general secretary Sanjiv Sood.

It was further decided that engineers will switch off their mobile sets from 2 pm  to 5 pm on April 2, 9 and April 16.

Executive committee members will observe a fast and hold a dharna in front of the head office of the PSPCL in Patiala on April 25.

In case the management fails to resolve the issues by then, the agitation will be further intensified. Engineers will go on one-day mass casual leave, said PSEBEA president Baldev Singh.
