With the Congress planning to screen the CD featuring "expletives" by Bikram Singh Majithia in the assembly at the Maghi Mela in Muktsar, former deputy speaker Bir Devinder Singh has asked the Punjab Congress to refrain from it in view of the religio-historic importance of Maghi Mela at Muktsar.
"It would not be setting a healthy precedent if they choose to screen the CD at Maghi Mela," he said, adding that the mela was an historical event and devotees thronged Muktsar on the accession of Maghi to pay homage to the martyrs who laid down their lives while fighting the Mughals.
He said Muktsar occupied a sacred place in the history of Sikhs and no one should be allowed to vitiate the atmosphere at the Maghi Mela.
Also, the controversial remarks stood expunged by the speaker, so they could not be screened as part of the proceedings of the house, he added.
"If still the Punjab Congress go ahead with screening the CD, they would be committing the contempt of the house," he added.
