The School of Management Studies at Punjabi University organised a seminar on "Problems and challenges of micro, small and medium enterprises" on Thursday, here.

Addressing the gathering, KD Chaudhri, chairman-cum-managing director of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), said Punjab would become a power-surplus state this year.

"We have been making heavy investments in the transmission and distribution sectors to make surplus power available to the consumers by using cost-effective measures," he said.

He added that they were in the process of adopting open access mechanism, facilitating direct purchase of power from the grid at cheaper rates.

While talking about the status of mini and small scale industries, Professor Management and registrar of the University, Dr AS Chawla said that these industrial units had braved challenges in the areas of finance and technical upgradation.

Prof BK Mohanty from the Indian Institute of management, Lucknow, said trust, skill and confidence were essential ingredients for success in any venture.
