In a first in the state, the Punjabi University has started a four-year distance learning B.Sc agriculture course which will start this academic session.

The course, which is four-year inter-disciplinary programme instead of a fully practical one, has been started under the aegis of the Indian Council of Agriculture Research.

Dean of the university’s college development council Dr Jamshed Ali Khan said keeping in view the Punjab economy and the increasing demand for the subject among students, the university has decided to start this course.

He said the students would not only be practically trained but subjects including rural development and languages will also be taught during the course.“For the practical work, university departments of horticulture and botany will impart field training.
