Continuing their protest for the second day, students of the University College of Engineering (UCOE), Punjabi University, on Tuesday carried out a rally in the campus and outside the vice-chancellor's office to demand the creation of a placement cell.

Democratic Student Organisation (DSO) president Gursewak Singh said the department's students had repeatedly demanded the creation of a placement cell, but to no avail.

Pointing out that the civil engineering students were suffering due to staff crunch and needed a laboratory to gain necessary practical experience, he alleged, "The university has been charging heavy fees from the students, but it has failed to provide basic facilities like reading hall, library, hygienic food and proper drainage system in the hostels."

Other demands of the protestors included ensuring easy access to the head of department, coordination between students and faculty, online result declaration at the end of every semester and availability of forms at the department.

While the university authorities assured the student body that their demands would be met within a month, students alleged that they were threatened and warned against taking out a rally.
