R 1.32 crore distributed for developmental projects in Barnala

Deputy commissioner Indu Malhotra on Friday gave nod to different development projects and released grants to different departments during a district planning committee (DPC) meeting, here.

Chairing the meeting, Malhotra gave Rs. 21.63 lakh for the ongoing development works under DPC, besides releasing funds of Rs. 34.96 lakh for providing nutritious food to children in anganwari centres across the district.

Malhotra passed grant of Rs. 20 lakh for construction of buildings of five anganwari centres and Rs. 10 lakh extra grant for basic infrastructure in the newly-built premises.

Meanwhile, she also ordered the authorities concerned to give grant of Rs. 45.45 lakh to anganwari centres as provided under the 13th finance commission.

Taking serious note of unsafe drinking water, Malhotra instructed district education authorities to make arrangements of installing reverse osmosis (RO) systems in all the government schools with cooperation of local panchayats and other non-government organisations.

PSPCL’s Rs 24-crore payment for coal reduced to ‘ashes’

In a major shock to the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), it paid Rs 24 crore in advance for coal which turned out be largely ash.The quality of coal supplied by M/s Panem during May and June 2014 was particularly poor on account of higher ash content (more than 34%) or lower (less than 4,000 kcal per kg) gross calorific value (GCV).
