With the local municipal corporation busy in completing construction work of roads, three-time member parliament and Congress candidate from the Patiala parliamentary constituency Preneet Kaur has questioned the timings of renovation and construction of roads before the elections.
"The government machinery is working overtime to lay pre-mix on roads in Patiala town which had been neglected for more than five years. Such hasty activities cannot lend credence to the government's claims that it is people-friendly," said Preneet.
"Is it not a violation of the model of code of conduct in view of the Lok Sabha elections?" she questioned.
Preneet said city roads and streets were in a very bad shape a few months before the notification for the elections but sensing resentment among people over the poor conditions of roads, the authorities immediately swung into action.
"The administration is in such a hurry to give a new look to the roads that the requisite norms prescribed for the purpose were not adhered to," she alleged.
