Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) vice-president and SGPC executive member Karnail Singh Panjoli, who had opposed the appointment of Joginder Pal Singla as new chairman of district planning committee, Fatehgarh Sahib, on Wednesday, stayed away from a function of SAD, wherein Singla had taken over the charge of his new post in presence of SAD senior leaders- Rajya Sabha member Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa,
revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia.
Perturbed over Singla's appointment, Panjoli had faxed letters to the Punjab CM and SAD president Sukhbir Badal. Panjoli had demanded that any Taksali Akali leader should have been appointed on Singla's post and the state government should reconsider its decision.
However, on Wednesday, while addressing the gathering, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal gave a clarion call to SAD and BJP to ensure defeat of the Congress led UPA in the impending Lok Sabha elections.
"SAD is the only secular party, which has given respect to every religion and worker in the party,"the deputy CM said.
