Senior superintendent of police Gurpreet Singh Gill said on a specific tip-off the police chased a Verna car and nabbed the trio, identified as Rajinder Kumar and Baldev Singh, both residents of Ambala, and Raghuvir Singh, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib. During the search of the vehicle, the police found the contraband.

The accused used to bring opium from Rajasthan and would sell it in Punjab and Haryana, the SSP added.

A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act had been registered against the accused who were already facing charges of drug peddling.

The police have taken the trio on a two-day remand to investigate their local links and to know the origin of opium, the SSP said, adding that more recoveries are also expected from them.
