Want to work for rural population, says PCS topper

Adding a feather to city's pride, Navreet Kaur Sekhon, 27, secured third spot in Punjab Civil Service (PCS), examination.


Pass out from IIT Delhi, with MSc in mathematics, Sekhon, had decided to opt for a career in state services during her postgraduate studies.

"While I was pursuing my masters I had taken an additional course in rural development. That is when I and my friends made up our minds to opt for a career in state services,"said the achiever.
Navreet had opted for public administration and geography as her exam subjects. Eldest of two siblings, she added, "It was more of self study of six hours daily that helped me crack the exam."

Two years of rigorous hard work and support of from parents made the city girl secure 64.21% in the examination.

"My friends also helped me; they used to guide me while I was preparing for the exam,"said Navreet.
She was to join as block development and panchayat officer (BDPO) in Barnala, when she got the news of the results.

"I want to work for the development of rural population. That is why I opted for this profession,"added she.

Drawing inspiration from bucolic population she said, "They are hard-working people who are unaware of their rights and opportunities. The major problems of the country are rooted in the rural belts. The rural population should be uplifted and brought at par with the urban population. Only then the nation can progress."

With high aims and dreams Sekhon is all set to join the state services.
