Western Railway (WR) got the better of South Central Railway (SCR) by 67 runs on the opening day of the 58th All India Inter-Railway Cricket Championship (for men) at the Diesel Loco Modernisation Works grounds here on Saturday.
Batting first, WR batsmen managed to score 220 runs for eight wickets in 50 overs. Sanjay Bangar scored 48, while middle-order batsman Roshan Srivastava 42 runs.
While chasing, SCR got all out on 153 runs in 44.1 overs. V Bhair of WR remained pick of the bowlers and took three wickets for 17 runs. Bangar and Hitesh Kadam picked two wickets each, for 25 and 47 runs, respectively.
In the second match, South Western Railway (SWR) registered a huge victory of 191 runs against the host DMW. The centuries from two SWR batsmen -- S Bhawane and N Bille, 152 and 117, respectively -- put SWR in the driver’s seat as the team put 293 runs on the scoreboard in 40 overs for five wickets.
However, DMW failed to show any resistance against the bowling attack of SWR and was all out on 102 runs.
Meanwhile, in a nail-biting finish, North Frontier Railway (NFR) overpowered South Eastern Railway by one run.
In a low-scoring match, chasing a total of 151 runs, SER batsmen were all out on 150 runs. Mrigan and Neeraj took three wickets each.
