Asserting that women in Punjab were not safe under the present regime of the SAD-BJP government, the Istri Jagrati Manch has demanded resignation from deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who happens to be the home minister of the state also.

Manch, which held an emergency meeting over the Tarn Taran incidence where a young girl was thrashed by policemen without any reason, stated that the cops involved in the episode should be dismissed immediately so that nobody dares to repeat such kind of barbaric acts in the future.

"This government has lost its credibility and women in Punjab were not safe. Be it the gangrape incidence in Badshapur of Patiala or the Tarn Taran episode, it is the police which have outraged the modesty of women," said general secretary of the body Amandeep Kaur Deol.
Criticising Bathinda MP and wife of the deputy chief minister, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the body chief, also sought her clarification on the issue.

"This is the high time, Harsmirat, who claims herself masiha of women in Punjab, should clarify her stand over the issue of increasing cases of harassment by the police. Why is she quite?" asked Deol.
