Reflecting the state of affairs in government hospitals, patients at the civil hospital here are being forced to take treatment on beds without bed sheets and blankets in the chilly weather.

Patients complain that the hospital staff after refusing them bed sheets has asked them to bring their own, as the hospital is facing their shortage.

According to hospital staff, after washing, the bed sheets don't get dried due to the foggy weather. Therefore, they are helpless.

To make matters worse, patients could be seen sharing beds in the labour ward of the hospital. Some patients also complained of stained bed sheets.

“I came here with a patient, who is suffering from a heart problem and swelling on feet. Let alone a blanket, the nurses refused to give a bed sheet for the patient and asked us to bring one from home. The staff told me that the bed sheets are wet,” Ramesh Srivastav, friend of a patient said.

Another patient, requesting anonymity, said, “I have been taking treatment for the past three days at the civil hospital, but there was no bed sheet available for me. Therefore, my family members brought me one from home. Outstation patients are suffering more.”

Interestingly, after this HT team visited the hospital, its staff provided bed sheets to patients.
It is pertinent to mention here that ahead of health minister Surjit Kumar Jyani's visit at the hospital in October, the hospital had used new bed sheets.

Senior medical officer Dr RK Karkara said there was no shortage of blankets and bed sheets at the hospital. “I am in Chandigarh, but will definitely look into the matter,” he added.
