The accused also tore the clothes of the victim and threatened him.
The victim, Ashok Kumar, has lodged a complaint with the deputy commissioner and at Ladhowal police station. Ashok said now the accused was pressurising him to withdraw the complaint.
The police have summoned the patwari on Monday, while the DC has marked an inquiry to sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) and asked him to file a report within four days.
Kitchlu Nagar resident Ashok Kumar said on Friday he had gone to the revenue office to get a copy of some property-related documents. He said patwari Sharanjit Singh handed over him a ‘morphed’ copy of the documents. “When I raised objection, the patwari took me outside and made me sit in his car, where he demanded ` 50,000 for the work. When I refused, the accused thrashed me and also tore the documents that I was already carrying, besides my clothes,” said Ashok.
“I raised an alar m and also made a call to the police control room, but the patwari left the place before the police reached the spot,” he added.
Despite several attempts patwari Sharanjit Singh did not pick up the phone.
