Punjab Agricultural University has been bestowed with 'Best All-India Coordinated Rice Improvement Programme Centre Award,' for outstanding research work on rice agronomy and entomology.
PAU scientists and rice agronomist Dr G Mahajan and entomologist Dr PS Sarao received the award during the 48th annual rice group meeting of AICRIP, held at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology, Srinagar, on Tuesday.
PAU vice-chancellor Dr BS Dhillon and director of research Dr SS Gosal congratulated the AICRIP agronomy and entomology team of the university and exhorted the rice scientists to win more laurels in future as well.
"During the meet, out of 47 different centres funded by the ICAR for rice improvement work of the country, five awards were conferred upon the individual discipline and the overall best centre. Among the five awards conferred, two were conferred upon the PAU teams for their outstanding research work on rice agronomy and entomology, a discipline of the rice section of the department of plant breeding and genetics of the university," said a varsity spokesperson.
It is worth mentioning that PAU rice centre was also adjudged as the overall best centre among the 47 centres during 2012.
