A four-member team of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) visited Golden Temple on Thursday to inspect the three historical ‘beris’ inside the shrine. There three beris — ‘Beri Baba Budha Sahib’, ‘Dukh Bhanjani Beri’ and ‘Lachi Ber’ — were examined by the team, which has been formed to ensure the upkeep.

The team includes agriculture and horticulture experts Dr Sandeep Singh, Dr Narinderpal Singh, Dr Karanbir Singh and Dr Jaswinder Singh. Dr Narinderpal Singh is the in-charge of PAU’s farmer advisory centre in Amritsar.

Speaking to HT, the team said with the cooperation of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, they have been looking after the trees since 2006 and added that an examination is carried out every year.

Dr Jaswinder Singh said May is crucial for the beris as dried branches need to be removed.

“We even have an expert to eliminate harmful pests on beris,” he added.
