Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) held a joint meeting of its Kisan Committee and PAU Fruit and Vegetable Producers' Committee on Monday during which issues ranging from climate change to depleting water resources were discussed.
During the meeting PAU vice-chancellor (V-C) Baldev Singh Dhillon stressed on the importance of interacting with the farmers. Stating that scientists would be able to learn more about agricultural issues by visiting a farmer's fields, Dhillion said there was a need to create awareness among the farmers about contemporary agricultural concerns which included rising expenditure on the purchase of farm inputs and burning of stubble.
Deputy directors/associate directors from Krishi Vigyan Kendras and farmers from different parts of Punjab attended the meeting. The farmers sought information on various matters that affected their fields which included ways to keep weed in check, disease management in various fruit and vegetable crops and protection of crops from birds.
