An associate professor of the department of civil engineering at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), who was served a show-cause notice for various financial irregularities committed by him in various university projects, has failed to show cause in the 15 days given to him.

The notice issued on January 31, by university registrar PK Khanna underlines various illegal actions undertaken by Deepak Gupta with proper facts and figures.

The 15 days given to Gupta got over on February 15, but Gupta has not given any explanation so far nor has the university taken any action against him. This was confirmed by university registrar PK Khanna to HT over phone.

Khanna said, "Deepak Gupta has not given us any explanation so far, although he was supposed to give explanation within 15 days post receipt of the notice issued to him."

He added, "We got busy due to the agricultural summit and could not keep a constant eye on the date as per the notice. However, we will soon contact Gupta and a decision will be taken".

Despite several attempts, PAU vice-chancellor BS Dhillon and Gupta could not be contacted.

Prior to the notice, Gupta was also chargesheeted in September 2012 for various financial goof-ups, which he denied, but the inquiry committee formed by the university vice-chancellor in February 2013 underlined all his financial irregularities with proper proofs and examples.

Though the notice states that in case no reply is received within the stipulated period it will be presumed that Gupta has nothing to say in the matter and the case will be decided accordingly, neither Gupta replied to the notice nor the university authorities acted on the default.
