Nearly 40 members of the Retirees' Welfare Association (RWA) of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organised a meeting on the campus, demanding release of pension in the month of April.

The members of the association criticised the university's languid attitude for not releasing their pensions in the meeting that lasted for an-hour-and-a-half.

General secretary of the association Satish Sood denounced that though a grant letter of `20 crore was sent to the university by the Punjab government in April this year, they had not received pension from the university.

The pension should be released as soon as possible, he demanded. Meanwhile, president of the association Jila Ram Bansal said: "Even the month of May is about to mark its culmination and we are still struggling for the pensions of April. This is very unfair for a government employee. Without any doubts, I must say that the university is least bothered about its retired employees."

"If we don't get our respective pension within the next two days, we will stage a protest in various parts of the campus," RWA chairman DP Maur said.
The association is also planning to meet the university vice-chancellor BS Dhillon in this regard if the pension continued to get delayed, Maur added.
