Punjabi University here has again failed to release pensions of its superannuated employees.

The delay in the payments has exposed poor financial crisis in the university as last month too, salaries of working employees were delayed.

Punjabi university retired officers welfare association president Sham Singh said the university authorities should pay pensions to its retired employees on the priority basis, before paying salaries to its working employees.

“Our pension is delayed every alternate month for no reasons. While the university spends crores of rupees on construction of buildings and organising seminars, we are ignored when the time comes to pay us,” he said.

Singh added the authorities had not released the first installment of arrears of the increase in pension from January 2006 to July 2009, enhancement of DA and payment of LTC from 2005 onwards.

“We have brought the matter before the university authorities several times but to no avail as authorities were least interested in releasing the dues,” he said.

Singh claimed that the authorities had completely ignored their interest as regular employees of the university had already got arrears, DA installments and LTC payments.
