People protested against the police of Amritsar in Punjab on Wednesday, after several police officials allegedly kidnapped an inmate from a hospital under high security ten days ago and thrashed him.
The police officials allegedly came in a group and abducted Bikramjit Singh who had gone to the hospital for treatment under police security.
"An inmate, who was under guard of police and had gone to Guru Nanak Hospital to get treated, was abducted, according to police sources, by a police inspector Naurang Singh, an ASI Gulshanbir and other police officials. Police thought that he had gone missing or had escaped," said former legislator of Amritsar, Laxmikanta Chawla.
Protesters shouted slogans against the police and flashed posters.
Sukhwant Kaur, the aggrieved mother of Singh, pleaded for her son's safe come back.
"Police have kidnapped him and beaten him. I want my child Bikramjit back," she said.
Meanwhile, police officials said they have arrested police officials on duty at the hospital. Also, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the police officials allegedly involved in the kidnapping.
"He was admitted in the hospital. He went missing from there. We got to know that he was kidnapped by a police party from near lifeline hospital, but we have no clue. We have registered a First Information Report against the police party and the inquiry is on. We have arrested five police officials on guard at the hospital for carelessness," said Commissioner of Police, Ajit Singh Brar.
However, Brar said they had no information about his whereabouts and what was the reason behind kidnapping. He also said that they have received no report about his killing.
The investigation in the case is underway.
