Sounded by intelligence agencies that the Aam Aadmi Par ty is eating into a major chunk of votes in city areas from where sitting Congress MP Preneet Kaur always lead, the deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal sees a hope at Patiala.
Anticipating a chance in Patiala to trounce Preneet Kaur, Sukhbir has started focusing on Patiala and has grilled the local SAD leadership with clear message “perform or perish.”
In 2009 elections, Preneet led from the areas governed by the municipal cor poration. And AAP has significantly risen in these areas. So, Sukhbir, has stated showing keen interest in Patiala, as he sees a situations positive for the Akali Dal.
Taking time out from his busy schedule, Sukhbir held two meetings here and grilled the local leaders with clear message “perform or perish.” He has taken all disgruntled leaders to task and have grilled leaders of Sanaur, Patiala rural, Ghanaur and Patiala urban.
Sukhbir held secret visits here on Sunday night and on Monday afternoon and he gave the local leaders a message that “the rise of AAP in Patiala has given a chance to SAD to get this seat back after 15 years.”
He also held meeting with all 50 candidates, who contested the election of councillors for the MC and assigned them job to reduce the maximum margin, as Preneet always win with hefty margin from the municipal corporation areas.
“The job for urban leaders is to contain her vote bank, and for rural seats he has asked halqa in-charges to increase the lead as he feels it’s a now a close contest, which SAD can work in its favour with micromanagement,” said a leader present in meeting. Two core team members of the deputy CM will now camp here and will do the micro-management, particularly in slum areas.
Cabinet minister Surjit Singh Rakhra has been assigned to personally monitor the campaign. When questioned about his secret visit, Sukhbir said that he was here to draw a strategy to ensure that both Preneet and Captain get defeated.
He said that “Let me promise you, it would be the last election of Preneet and Amarinder as their collective defeat will end their political career.”
