A Phagwara resident who had accused Vardaan Infertility and Medical Research Centre of negligence in treating his wife, which led to her death on Sunday, urged the administration to seal the centre as it lacked adequate facilities for IVF surgeries.
Amit Sharma alleged that Vareesh Kumar, managing director of the centre, had a criminal record. He also alleged that in 2008, the civil surgeon had booked him for violating the PNDT Act and was also booked by police. Sharma alleged that Kumar was also booked for death of another patient at his hospital.
Sharma said his wife was undergoing treatment at the centre to get her uterine septum removed and when some complications arose, doctors did not even seek his consent before shifting her to Johal Hospital.
Refuting all allegations, Kumar said two gynecologists of the centre were registered with Punjab Medical Council and district authorities. He said Sharma was trying to defame the hospital.
