PGI foundation day tomorrow

The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, will celebrate its foundation day on Monday. Dr K Vijay Raghavan, secretary, department of biotechnology, government of India, will be the chief guest and address the institute staff on the occasion.
The topic of the lecture will be "The challenges in scaling quality research in India and possible directions."
Sunita Devi, who has been awarded Florence Nightingale Award by the President of India, will be felicitated on the occasion. The PGIMER will complete 51 years of its existence and enter the 52nd year on July 7. Conceived in 1961 with the concurrence of the Planning Commission, the institute started functioning in 1962.
PGIMER was formally inaugurated on July 7, 1963, by then Prime Minister, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. The institute caters to a large number of patients, being referral centre, for all the northern states.
The hospital has almost 2,000 beds has an OPD attendance of 10,000 patients per day (20 lakh per year) and admits 77,000 patients per year and is well-equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. On the occasion of foundation day the following seven PGI employees will be recognised for their meritorious service.
