The Rural Health Pharmacists' Association on Saturday urged the state government to change the rules drafted for the regularisation of their services.

In a statement issued here, the association said a notification issued on August 23, 2012, should be changed as it did not allow the inclusion of their experience in regularisation. Patiala district president of the association, Ram Singh, said the government notification stated that it would appoint pharmacists on merit. "The notification was mum on the experience issue. What about our services that we are rendering at present? Government must look into the matter," the association said.

The association's contention is that pharmacists graduated in pharmacy almost 10 years ago, a time when hardly any colleges offered pharmacy as a subject. "At that time, merit of marks of the course used to go very low. But with the relaxation in study norms and increase in colleges, students are getting more marks as these colleges are just busy in making money," the association president said.

The association also demanded the government to renew the contract of the pharmacists, before it ends on November 30, till the government drafts a regular policy for appointment.
