DIG Jalandhar range, Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, on Thursday suspended Phillaur DSP Ashwani Kumar Attri and head constable Ashok Kumar for allegedly thrashing hotel owner Jagdish Kumar when he demanded the bill of served food items from the accused on July 26 in Goraya town of the district.

An inquiry was being reportedly conducted by senior superintendent of police (SSP) (rural) Jaspreet Singh Sidhu over the complaint filed by Kumar that the DSP had thrashed him mercilessly when he asked for the bill of food served to him when he visited his RC Plaza Hotel on July 26.

The hotel owner had claimed that they had served a bill of Rs 1,500 for the lunch ordered by the DSP himself. He further alleged that the cops did not pay the amount and when he insisted about the payment, they thrashed him mercilessly. He said that later the Goraya SHO took him to the police station and beat him up.

After that incident, the BSP workers had staged a dharna outside Phillaur police station and had demanded suspension of DSP Attri.

However, Attri claimed that he had paid the whole bill to the hotel. He said when he visited the ground floor of the hotel, he found people gambling and liquor being served.
