The local police have booked two repairmen for allegedly stealing gold jewellery and R10,000 in cash while repairing the lock of an almirah at a house in Amarpura.

In her complaint, Amarjit Kaur alleged that on September 21 she called in two repairmen to fix the locks of her almirah. However, after the duo left, she was still unable to open the locks.

Therefore, she called in another repairman on Monday. Kaur alleged that when she opened the almirah, she was shocked to find Rs 10,000 in cash, two gold bangles, a gold chain, a gold ring and a pair of earrings missing from the almirah.

She alleged that repairmen who had earlier visited her house had stolen the articles and cash, adding that one of the accused was in his twenties, while his accomplice was around 40 years old.

Following Kaur's complaint, Division Number 2 police station registered a case under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on Monday.

Sub-inspector Rajinder Prasad of Division Number 2 police station, said the police had launched a manhunt to arrest the accused.
