Former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal has filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) over photos of Congress leaders being published in ration cards that were recently issued by the state government.
In his letter to the ECI, Dhumal has claimed that recently issued ration cards carried the photographs of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi, chief minister Virbhadra Singh and a state cabinet minister. He said the state government was violating the poll code by printing photographs of Congress leaders on ration cards. “It is the first time that ration cards have photographs of political leaders,” he said.
Dhumal sought immediate cancellation of the ration cards. “The ECI should stop this misuse of public money and violation of poll code,” he said. Earlier, Dhumal had accused the state government of transferring nearly 700 employees on the day the schedule of elections was announced. BJP had also lodged a complaint with the ECI, accusing the state government of inaugurating and laying foundation stone of a project on the first day of poll code.
