Former Himachal chief minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Prem Kumar Dhumal on Friday described the statement made by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the charges levelled against chief minister Virbhadra Singh as “highly shocking”.

He said it was not understood when the entire nation knew about the allegations, the Prime Minister said that he had no time to consider the issue.

Talking to a group of reporters here, Dhumal said the Prime Minister's statement proved that the Congress party was not serious about the corruption issue and had a double-face on the issue. He urged the Prime Minister to read between the lines and take strong action against Virbhadra for his alleged involvement in financial irregularities.

Meanwhile, hitting out at the Prime Minister for levelling “baseless” charges against Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, Dhumal described the last four years' of Singh's rule as “disastrous” for the nation.

Nation had earned nothing, but lost too much under the leadership of Manmohan Singh, who wanted not to become Prime Minister for the third time, Dhumal added.

The BJP leader said the Prime Minister's press conference was shocking and highly disappointing when he said that the Congress had failed on three vital issues.

Dhumal reminded the Prime Minister that these three issues were vital for the nation and his government had failed to solve those; as such it was proved that the Congress party was not sincere towards solving the genuine problems of the people.
