The district police claimed to have unearthed two inter-district gangs of thieves and robbers during two special police 'nakas' laid near Punjab Agricultural University here and at the bridge across a canal at Bhattian village under Kahnuwan police station on Monday.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday,Gurdaspur Senior Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh Toor said that four accused namely Rishi,Ravi and Kashmir,all residents of Amritsar district and Kali of Gurdaspur were arrested during a 'naka' jointly laid by Gurdaspur city police and CIA staff near the Punjab Agricultural University in Gurdaspur on Monday,while two of their accomplices later identified as Vishal alias Kalu and Bau Lal,both residents of Amritsar,managed to escape.
Toor said that the police recovered 70 grams of golden jewellery and 140 grams of silver jewellery from the arrested accused.He told that the recovered golden and silver jewellery were stolen from the areas under Gurdaspur city police station during different incidents of thefts in 2012,13 and 14.
Toor said that the police recovered a .315 country made pistol,four live cartridges and one shell from Rishi,an iron rod from Ravi,a hammer and pliers from Kashmir Singh and an iron saw from Kali.
The SSP said that a police party arrested another four thieves namely Jarnail Singh,Kuldeep Singh,Amarjit Singh and Hira Singh,all residents of Kotli Dhole Shah under Kathunangal police Station during a 'naka' laid on the bridge across canal at Bhattian village under Kahnuwan police station on Monday.He told that two motor cycles,two cutters and two copper coils were recovered from their possession.He told that these thieves had stolen copper coils from the electricity transformers at Jhanda Gujjran,Kishanpur and Jagatpur villages in the district.
