The city police were outwitted by kidnappers who succeeded in escaping after collecting Rs 3 lakh as ransom on Sunday night.
Interestingly, the kidnappers used a bicycle to collect the money. The police chased them but they fled. After getting the ransom money, the kidnappers released the abducted girl near Jeevan Nagar Chowk on Monday morning.
Neither the police have arrested any kidnapper nor do they have any clue. However, the police still sought the credit and claimed the recovery of the girl as their achievement.
Arjun, father of the girl, mortgaged his house for Rs 3 lakh to get his daughter released from the kidnappers.
Addressing a press conference, the ADCP city-4 seemed patting the back of the Sahnewal police. He claimed that the police had created pressure on kidnappers, who in turn released the girl.
The ADCP said Nisha, 6, was kidnapped on Saturday by three motorcycle-borne kidnappers, who demanded Rs 5 lakh in ransom.
The father of the girl complained to the police. Interestingly, the police allegedly asked him to arrange the money and give it to the kidnappers as they had demanded.
The police assured him that policemen in civil dress would cordon off the area and would arrest the kidnappers and recover the girl safely.
However, the police failed to keep the claim and kidnappers managed to escape with the ransom money.
