Congress workers tried to lock the post office here on Thursday in protest against the central government’s decision to discontinue with the stamps of former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. The protest was led by secretary of the Punjab Youth Congress Poonam Kangra. The protesters demanded continuation of the stamps.

Police stopped the protesters on the main gate of the post office and did not allow them to enter the premises or lock the gate. There was a mild scuffle among the police and Congress workers in which Poonam Kangra suffered minor injuries on her right hand.

Police arrested the protesters and later released them after two hours. Talking to HT, Darshan Kangra, vice-chairman of the sports and cultural cell of the PPCC said, “If their demand is not met in the near future, they will intensify the protest at the state level.”
