In view of the 30th anniversary of the Operation Bluestar, the district police kept a close vigil in the city. Apart from deploying heavy police force in sensitive areas, the police also kept a close tab on radical members of the Hindu and Sikh organizations, so that no one can hold any procession.
The security was beefed up in the city. The police didn't allow anyone to hold march.
Last year, Sikh radicals held procession and raised pro- Khalistan slogans, while Hindu radical held separate procession and burnt effigy of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. However, this year the police didn't allow anyone to hold such event.
In the afternoon, some Shiv Sena leaders tried to distribute sweets by terming Operation Blue star as a victory of Indian Army on militants, but the police stopped them. Heavy police remain deployed in the city throughout the day.
