The State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) of the Punjab police has apprehended two smugglers and seized 3.5-kg heroin, worth Rs 16.5 crore in the international market.
An official release issued here on Wednesday said a team of the SSOC on a tip-off, took into custody two smugglers, Swaran Singh, a resident of Gandiwind village; and Satbir Singh of Sarangdev village. The duo was waiting on a motorcycle at T-point on Dhapai-Chabal road when the SSOC team swooped upon them.
According to SSOC officials, the heroin was recovered during search of their motorcycle. The consignment was to be further delivered to another drug dealer.
The two were later booked under various sections of the Narcotic Substances and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The case was registered at the SSOC police station here.
