A police station and several government departments are on a list of bill payment defaulters with Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) in SAS Nagar district. The corporation has put up the list of 10 names, with dues of Rs 35 lakh, on its office notice board as a name-and-shame exercise. More lists are being prepared, after which the total outstanding dues in the district would emerge, said officials. This is part of a central government measure.

Seven of the 10 entities on the list are government-run. These include the hockey stadium in Phase 9, whose authorities have failed to clear bills worth Rs 4.3 lakh, while the police post of Industrial Area, Phase 8, has outstanding dues of Rs 11.2 lakh. On top is the water works in Balongi — bill in the name of its chairperson — with Rs 17.4 lakh. Even the Government Primary School in Sector 60 has to pay Rs 66,336.

The PSPCL in the recent past disconnected power supply to defaulting departments as well as educational institutes, but these had to be restored following public and political pressure.

The private entities on the list are Bombay Circus (RP Sharma) with Rs 18,271 and Super Publicity, Phase 7 (focal point), with Rs 21,923. Syndicate Bank, Phase 1, has dues of Rs 37,913; municipal corporation tubewell in Industrial Area, Phase 9, has Rs 20,203, and Social Promoter Company, Phase 2, with Rs 36,130 are also in the list.
