A seven-year-old child, who was kidnapped from Sahnewal and a ransom asked in the case, was rescued on Wednesday evening.
Rohan, son of Ram Chander of Pawa village in Sahnewal, was allegedly kidnapped by Raju, a family acquaintance. Raju was demanding Rs 40,000 as ransom.
Sources said the police traced the kidnapper through phone calls. The kidnapper's phone number was put on surveillance after the complaint of Ram Chander.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP), Jaswinder Singh, said the investigation had begun since the day the boy was kidnapped. “We had formed a team that was trying to trace the boy. After leads we were able to trace the child in a nearby area,” said Singh. He did not divulge the details of the case.
The police had registered a case under Section 264A and 365 of the IPC. Ram Chander had told the police that Rohan had gone missing on March 11.
