Police seized 8 kg of heroin in Bathinda

The special team of the counter intelligence wing of Punjab police has claimed to have seized 8 kilograms of heroin that could be worth Rs 40 crore in the international market from the Punjab-Pakistan border in Ferozepur on Sunday.
The catch was recovered from two smugglers who had got it from Pakistan. Officials also claimed to have busted an international gang being operated from Canada that was involved in the recovery of heroin.
The police have also recovered 3 mobile phones from the possession of the arrested smugglers.
Police officials said that the arrested persons have been identified as Sukhjinder Singh, of Jalandhar and Randeep Singh, of Amritsar.
As per information, Sukhjinder Singh returned from Malaysia recently. Police officials said that during the primary investigation the police found that this inter-state gang was allegedly selling drugs under the supervision Sukhjinder Singh in Punjab.
The police revealed that Sukhjinder was receiving instructions about the delivery from Canada, where the kingpin of the gang is based. This gang allegedly has links with a notorious smuggler of Pakistan named Aarif Dogar.
Sources said that as soon as the police received this tip-off, a special police team was formed for nabbing the culprits.
A case has been registered against Sukhjinder Singh and Randeep Singh under sections 15, 61 and 85 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in this regard. Police said that further investigation is underway in this connection.
