Police start investigation into Khanna girl's rape, murder

The Dhanaula police in Barnala district have started investigations in the rape and murder case of Manmeet, a Class 12 student of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Khanna, whose body was recovered near a minor distributory at Dhanaula on August 4.

Manmeet had gone to the school but when she did not return home, her parents started looking for her. Later, they reported the matter at Khanna police station.

Ten 10 days after she went missing, her body was recovered from Dhanaula. Initially, police registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC.

After post mortem in the Civil Hospital, Barnala, the body was handed over to her parents. The report released on August 6 said the girl was raped and murdered. Later, the Dhanaula police registered a case against unidentified suspects under Sections 302 and 376 of the IPC and started investigations.

A police team led by the Barnala deputy superintendent of police on Wednesday visited the girl's school and checked her attendance record. They also questioned the school principal, her class incharge and students.

A team of CIA staff, Barnala, had also visited the school.
